Paterna / Paternayan / Colonial Needle Persian Yarn

Spinning Jenny has long stocked the well known Paterna Persian Yarn for tapestry (needlepoint). This yarn, once made in Yorkshire but now made in New York by the Colonial Needle Company, was used and loved by many, including the legendary Kaffe Fassett.

When we bought Spinning Jenny, the business came with a significant back stock of the colours, especially the colours which Colonial Needle do not produce.

Because of the decline in its use in the UK, and the increasing costs of getting it here, we took the decision not to restock, but to concentrate on supplying the British Appletons Tapestry and Crewel yarns instead. These come in a very wide range of over 450 shades, and the majority of Paterna shades can be matched to an Appletons equivalent (the exceptions are the purples, which are more muted in Appletons).

Our stocks in some shades have now reached the point where we are unable to supply hanks / skeins, but we may be able to find a cut length or two, or where we have shades, but they are different manufacturers or dye lots and the two are visibly different.

Therefore we have decided to take the Paterna off the website and ask you to email us or call us with the shade numbers you need. We will then advise you of what we can supply, or give you an Appletons equivalent, before you place an order.

Thank you very much for your help in this - we will do our best to find what you need, or help with equivalents.
